Sustainable Digital Empowerment

Inauguration of the Foundation’s first computer lab powered by solar energy to help bridge the digital divide in rural Kenya.

The recent inauguration of the solar-powered digital lab at Ramula Mixed Secondary School in Kenya represents a significant step towards TT Global Foundation’s mission of enhancing digital literacy and equipping students with the essential tech skills they can utilize in their future endeavours.

Ramula Mixed Secondary School, situated in Luanda Village in Siaya County, Kisumu, faces several barriers to digitally enabling their students, including lack of availability of computers, frequent power outages, and limited internet connectivity, all of which hinder the children’s access to technology.

To address these challenges, we have implemented a comprehensive solution encompassing the donation of 35 All-in-One computers, commissioning a small-scale solar plant to provide the school’s computer lab with a continuous supply of electricity, and connecting them to a reliable internet service. We then leveraged these capabilities, to enhance student safety by installing internet connected surveillance cameras throughout the school. This sustainable energy solution ensures uninterrupted classes even during power outages.

The new lab serves as an example for our future projects, highlighting the potential of technology solutions for schools powered by renewable energy. We plan to integrate more green technologies into our initiatives, contributing to the Foundation's larger vision of building self-sustainable and resilient communities.
